High school students may submit post prom

Peru State College Music Scholarships Peru
State College has available two music scholarship opportunities: the first is
the Clements Band Scholarship ($2,000 first place, $500 second place) awarded
to incoming freshmen students to participate in band. The second award is the
Helen Naeve Douglas Music Scholarship ($500) awarded to an incoming freshman
majoring in music education. Interested student will be expected to perform in
a competitive audition on Tuesday, March 20. More information is available in
the guidance office.
Yearbook photos are available for
students involved in girls and boys high school basketball, high school
wrestling, and junior high boy’s basketball. Letter Club and Thespians Officers
can also order pictures. The order form can be found on the school website or
in Miss Borer's room. Please return forms with payment by February 15.
A representative from the Hastings Campus of Central Community
College will be here Wednesday, February 1 at 3:00. Interested students
please get a pass before school and be properly dismissed from class.
Scott Mecham BBB Student of Integrity Awards The
Better Business Bureau (BBB) serving Nebraska, South Dakota and Southwest Iowa
awards six scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each to students who exemplify
ethical behavior and personal integrity. The application guide with full
details and required forms can be downloaded at www.bbb.org or they are
available in the guidance office. Application deadline is March 9.
Gabby Matthes Memorial Endowed Scholarship Two
$1,000 scholarships will be awarded each year--one to a Freeman High School
senior or graduate and one to a senior or graduate of a high school in Gage,
Lancaster, Jefferson, Saline, Johnson or Pawnee Counties in Nebraska.
Applicants must demonstrate involvement in school or community activities other
than, or in addition to, athletics. Activities may include art, music, drama or
clubs. Financial need and academic achievement will be used as tie breaker
criteria only. Applicants are required to complete the Lincoln Community
Foundation Application form and submit the form and all required attachments
(transcripts, essay, student aid report or college funding estimator) to the
Lincoln Community Foundation office. Applications must be postmarked or
delivered by March 15. The application can be accessed at

Yearbook Members: There will be a meeting
on Thursday during IAP in the media center. We will be discussing our plans for
the next round of selling ads. If you cannot be there, let Ms. Borer or Mrs.
McCain know.
Are you ready to warm up this winter?
It is time for cappuccinos and hot chocolate in the media center. This Friday
for 50 cents a cup, we will be serving Seniors and Juniors!
Gus Swanson Communications Scholarship Swanson
Russell Associates will award the $500 Gus Swanson Communications Scholarship
to a Nebraska high school graduate who plans to enroll in a Nebraska college or
university and pursue a degree in one of the following fields: advertising,
marketing, mass communications, communication studies, public relations,
journalism, graphic design/desktop publishing. Applications are available at
www.swansonrussell.com/scholarship. Application deadline is March 16.
Independent Insurance Agents of Lincoln Scholarships The Independent Insurance Agents of Lincoln Foundation is now
accepting applications for three scholarships each in the amount of $1000. The
scholarships will be awarded to students that choose to attend an accredited 2
or 4 year college in Nebraska with preference given to students majoring in
business or a business-related field. Applications are available in the
guidance office and are due by March 1.
Architecture Summer Workshop
The College of Architecture at UNL will host a career
exploration opportunity June 10-16 for students interested in learning more
about the design professions of architecture, landscape architecture and
interior design. Students who have completed two or more years of their high
school education and have an interest in these areas are encouraged to apply.
Applicants will be selected on the basis of a review of materials submitted
with the application procedure. Space is limited to 36 students. Cost of the
workshop is $585 which includes studio supplies, program fees, meals and
lodging. Applications are available in the guidance office and are due by April
6.
Information Networking & Telecommunications Career Showcase The
University of Nebraska-Kearney invites juniors and seniors interested in
pursuing a degree in the information networking and telecommunications field to
this career day event on Thursday, March 29. This field of study is all about
the inter-workings of the internet, management of servers and security against
hackers. The event is free of charge. Reservations must be made by March 7.

$1,500 Business-Insurance Studies Scholarship The
Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska Foundation will award two $1,500
scholarships, one to a graduating senior and one to a nontraditional student
seeking to further their education at Northeast Community College in Norfolk
with an accredited program of study recognized by Project InVEST. See Mrs.
Dunker for more information. Application deadline is march 1, 2012.

Wednesday during IAP! Don't forget your THREE sets of questions need to be
turned in by Wednesday.
D.J.'s Hero Award The Salvation Army is now
accepting nominations for the 2012 D.J.'s Hero Awards. Given in memory of D.J.
Sokol, the awards recognize Nebraska youth ages 17-19 who exemplify his
dedication to faith, selfless acts for others and commitment to community.
Honorees receive a $5,000 scholarship. More information is available in the
guidance office or go to GiveSalvationArmy.org. Nominations must be postmarked
by march 9.

Logo Re-Design Competition The Douglas County Fair
in Omaha is launching a region-wide competition for the re-design of the Fair
logo. The Fair began in 1858 and reflects an open class entry forum, meaning
exhibitors do not have to live in Douglas County to participate. The DCF
invites all high school aged (grades 9-12) students and all those currently
enrolled in a post-secondary education institution to assist with creating a
logo for the Fair. Students must enter their design by April 19, 2012 in order
to be considered. The winning designer will receive a $100 US Savings Bond and
a copy of all materials containing the design for the student's portfolio.
