AGRICULTURAL TECH. I (Metals) - GRADES 10-12

This class helps to develop skills in handling a wide range of tools in metal working. The course covers areas in sheet metal, foundry, oxyacetylene welding, arc welding, forging, metal lathe, soldering, metal identification, milling, and machining.

Students will be introduced to the world of computer-aided drafting during this course. Students will put either machinists drawing or a project drawing on the CAD. This will allow students to practice skills tests and general shop work. Small projects will be made in forging, sheet metal, lathe, foundry repair, arc welding, and possible others if time permits. Various welding exercises as well as other skills projects will be completed for grading. Elective projects will be done during the last nine weeks.

Requirements: Welding gloves, coveralls, cost of materials for project work will be furnished by the student. Safety glasses will be provided by the school with the student being held responsible. Each student will be assessed a $2.50 fee in addition to a project materials fee.

Prerequisite: none

AGRICULTURAL TECH. II (Advanced Metals) - GRADES 11-12

This course offers the student a chance to further develop skills in metalworking and design. This course is concentrated mostly on welding skills but students will review the advanced areas of metal lathe and milling machine. All students will be required to put a machinist's drawing with working details on the computer drafting machine. This drawing will be done in class if machines are available; otherwise, some drafting may have to be done out of class. The computer drawing may represent a project which can be done in metals class.

All areas of welding including oxyacetylene, AC-DC arc welding, mig and tig welding will be discussed with written and practical assignments for each. Students will experience such welding practices as aluminum, cast iron, hard surfacing, stainless steel, and other special applications. Students will learn the proper tool and machine maintenance that is so important in a class such as this. Nearly all practicing is done during the first semester with the second semester being used for major project work.

Requirements: Welding gloves, coveralls. The cost of project materials will be furnished by the student. Safety glasses will be provided by the school with students being held responsible. Each student will be assessed a fee of $5.00 in addition to the products used fee.

Prerequisite: Agricultural Tech. I (Metals)
