Senior English I

This is a college preparatory class.  It will acquaint the student with a glimpse of what English at the university level may be like.  The course uses literature as the basis for different projects and writing exercises.  Students will read selected literature from these time periods:  the Classical Age, the Middle Ages, the English Renaissance, and modern literature.

During the entire year, papers will be written based on the required reading.  All exams will be in essay form.  The final, major project will be a critical analysis of three literary works.

Weekly vocabulary units and quizzes (objective quizzes) will be used in the first semester only.  During the second semester, you will use this time for term paper reading and research.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

By this time in your school career, you should not have to be told to be prepared when you come to class--so I won't say anything further.

GRADING

Papers will be graded on a point system.  Not all assignments will be worth 100 points.  To compute a grade less than 100 points in total value, divide the denominator into the numerator.

Any graded assignment turned in late will be lowered by one letter grade for each day the assignment is late.

ALL MAJOR ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED TO RECEIVE CREDIT IN THIS COURSE, EVEN IF NO POINTS CAN BE EARNED.  Since most of you need this class to graduate, you must complete all major assignments.  (Term paper information will be handed out in December.  The rough draft and paper will be due most probably in April.)

Your teacher prefers all assignments and essays to be written in ink, or typed, or word processed.  (If you are an inveterate pencil user, PLEASE use soft, dark lead.)
