  • This is a co-curricular activity organized in the Business Law class.

  • Through participation in mock trial, a student will experience what it is like to prepare for and present a legal case before a court.

  • The greatest benefit is the opportunity to learn how the legal system works.

  • Actual court cases take place during the fall of the year.

This year our case was Pat Christenson vs. William Jennings Bryan Public High School.  Pat was a student who was running for student council president at WJB on a campaign based upon his/her religious beliefs.  Pat gave a speech at a school assembly that Dr. Eddie U. Cation, Principal of WJB, believes would entangle the school in the constitutional prohibition against state-sponsored establishment of religion.  Dr. Eddie, at first, cancelled the election.   The principal then decided that the election should take place but that Pat could participate only if Pat changed her/his campaign message to purge it of any religious references.
