Classroom Counseling for August and September

During the months of August and September, students participated in some multicultural lessons in the classroom. Time was spent talking about diversity and tolerance among students. Students shared about the many things that make their classrooms diverse and how we can all show tolerance and acceptance for each other through showing PRIDE at TC.

For the past 30 years, EducationQuest Foundation has partnered with middle and high school educators across Nebraska. Now, they are expanding their efforts to help sixth-grade students think about education beyond high school. Students who start planning early are more likely to attend college than those who don't, regardless of barriers they face. Of the 89.68% (2014, NDE) of Nebraska students who graduated from high school, 71.5% continued onto college. According to the 2016 Higher Education Progress Report, one-quarter of Nebraska students are not furthering their education to obtain skills for a career and are missing out on the benefits of education beyond high school.  According to The College Board, there are "Five Ways Ed Pays:" Students make more money over their lifetime, are less likely to be unemployed, are less likely to be obese and will exercise more often, will read to their children more often, and are more likely to vote and volunteer (EducationQuest Foundation, 2016). Sixth graders will be focusing some of their time this month on "Look2College," which is a publication put out by EducationQuest.
