Tri County Community-Based Learning

As part of Tri County Public Schools Life Skills Program, the students have the opportunity to go out in the community and practice skills they learned in class. One of the favorite community-based learning opportunities is the shopping trips to Walmart at various surrounding towns. At Walmart, students are able to use money and organization skills in real-life situations. The students are responsible for making a grocery list, price matching, finding savings with coupons and calculating prices. Back in the classroom, the students then continue their life-skills learning opportunities through cooking. As well as exploring the community for hands-on learning, the students also have a mock grocery store where they practice the identical skills as those in the community.
