Happy New Year, 2018!!
Our students are continuing to work hard, and I want to remind everyone our students only have two weeks of school left prior to the end of the semester. Also a reminder for both parents and students is that semester tests will be held on December 21st and 22nd. Our schedule will be altered to allow students enough time to complete the exams, and on Friday, December 22nd, school will release at 1 p.m. The administrative team will be cooking breakfast for all students PK-12 on December 21st starting at 7:30 a.m. The menu will consist of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. I hope everyone will come and enjoy!
As students return from their holiday break, on January 3-4 we are going to use our semester test schedule to provide our students two days of a Career Readiness Rally! During the two days students will be completing NeSA and ACT practice exams, as well as visiting with invited guests who will be visiting classes to discuss possible career choices and other possibilities for our students. These two days are meant to allow our students to explore and prepare for a competitive world, and then use the skills they acquire to assist them as they prepare for their futures. All students in grades 7-12 will be participating. We are looking forward to providing these opportunities for our students.
Our Career and Technical Education(CTE) departments have been working on what is called a reVision grant sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Education. The grant will allow our CTE departments to evaluate our current curriculum and explore new avenues to improve and develop a curriculum and possible innovative ways to prepare our students for their futures. This is a 3-5 year process which started with a community/local business input meeting, which was held on November 16. Our reVision team sent out 100 invites to area employers, post secondary institutions, and workforce agencies, and the team looked for suggestions as to how to better prepare our students now and in the future. The reVision team is excited to be working on this project, and hopes to see a positive outcome for our school.
Students have been and will continue to be showing their talents throughout the next few of months. The holiday concert is on December 18th at 7:00 p.m. I want to remind you the concert will be a combined vocal and instrumental concert. This is a special night, and I’m sure that our students will do their best. The 2018 Speech Team season will begin in January. Both students and sponsors are ready to show off their skills and prepare for a state tournament bid in March.
Our winter sports season will be getting into full gear with basketball and wrestling. I would ask that people come out and support our student/athletes. They deserve the support for all the hard work and time they put into preparing for each contest. Our Play Production members will be looking for a chance to compete at state. I want to wish all participants vocal, instrumental, and winter student/athletes the best of luck for success...put forth your best effort every day!
A reminder of a Holiday Activity schedule change with Tri County girls/boys basketball teams. The teams will not be competing in a Holiday Tournament this year. Tri County will host Diller-Odell on December 29th at 3 p.m. The FFA/FFA Alumni will be having their Annual Pancake Supper during the games as well.
I want to take time to wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season. Take time to enjoy some time away from school, and relish the time you have with your family. I would like to also wish everyone a Happy 2018 as well!
