Circle of Friends
Launch the media gallery 1 playerTri County Elementary has a Circle of Friends group to establish friendships between students with Autism and their non-disabled peers. The group's focus is on inclusive meaningful participation in a small group which has provided the opportunity for the peers and target student to acquire, practice and improve social/conversation skills and problem-solving strategies. The goal of the group is for the peers and target student to experience positive peer relationships, learn to use appropriate strategies for making and keeping friends, learn to verbally participate in conversations appropriately and learn to express emotions appropriately.
The group has helped the target students within the mainstream of regular education for generalization of skills learned in Circle of Friends group. The group has also helped the peers to know how to interact and help the target students in all aspects of the school day.
