Elementary students celebrated Red Ribbon/Author week October 10th through the 14th. It was a busy week, but a fun one for the students! Red Ribbon Week helps educate individuals, families, and communities on the destructive effects of alcohol and drugs and encourages the adoption of healthy lifestyle choices. During this week at school, students learn the importance of being drug-free and about dangers associated with drugs. Students did classroom lessons and activities which focused on making positive/healthy choices as well as how to respond to negative peer pressure. This year the Elementary Student Council helped plan and organize the theme and dress days, decorate the school, and helped plan student activities for the week which included making a double looped red ribbon with the students, locker decorating in our 6th grade, and a photo booth for twin day--to name a few. The Student Council was able to raise $224.00 from the photo booth which they will donate to a charitable organization. We encourage you to talk openly with your child and stay actively engaged in your child's life. All aspects of a child's/ teen's environment-home, school, and community can influence whether he or she will try drugs.
