Christmas Community Service Project-Empathy

During the month of November, students in grades K-6 have been learning about Empathy. As part of these activities, the students will have the opportunity to participate in a Community Service Project. Our Elementary Student Council met recently to discuss various service projects the students could be involved in. The Student Council voted that this year's project will help the People's City Mission in Lincoln. For those who may not know a lot about the People's City Mission, the following information may help. The People's City Mission has several services they provide. They provide a Family Shelter for the homeless and for women and children who are experiencing some form of personal crisis as well as a Men's Shelter. "Safe Place" sites are also available to give youth in crisis access to immediate help and safety. A free Medical Clinic is available for people in Lancaster County who lack medical insurance or the ability to pay for health care. Finally, the Homeless Prevention Center is dedicated to making much-needed items available at no charge to those who need it most. The project was discussed in the classrooms during classroom counseling and a list was sent home with items needed. You can also find fliers posted in the school with the needed items.  If your student/family would like to participate in this service project, they can bring items from the list November 28 through December 16th and give them to Mrs. Chapman in the Elementary...no items will be accepted at the school after this date as they will be delivered that weekend. The personal care items or any items in containers should be new and unopened. If you have any questions regarding this project, feel free to contact Mrs. Chapman at the school.
