TRI COUNTY AG STUDENTS ATTEND HUSKER HARVEST DAYS
Twenty students enrolled in Agriculture Education classes at Tri County High School attended the 41st annual Husker Harvest Days (HHD) on Wed., Sept. 12th. HHD is the world’s largest totally irrigated farm show and is located west of Grand Island, NE.
The show features the latest equipment, supplies and technologies available to today’s producers. Field demonstrations and crop technology exhibits are geared to Nebraska and western Corn Belt agriculture. Students viewed the newest tractors, combines and harvesters, grain-handling equipment, and irrigation technologies. There were live demonstrations of livestock handling facilities to round out the learning opportunities. Mr. Barnard sponsored the group.

FFA ANNOUNCES JUNIOR OFFICERS
The Tri County FFA Chapter recently conducted an election for Junior Officers in the Chapter. Junior Officers are from the 9th and 10th grade classes. Their responsibilities include stepping in at meetings if the Chapter officer is absent, assisting the Chapter officer with their duties and representing the Tri County FFA at leadership events. The group will attend the Connecting Chapters training at Thayer Central in October.
Serving the TC FFA will be Hannah Holtmeier, President; Brevin Damrow, Vice-President; Andie Koch, Secretary; Ella Crawford, Treasurer; Kynlee Uher, Reporter; Gavin Weidel, Sentinel and Cole Siems, Parliamentarian.
LOCAL FFA RECEIVES GRANT
The Tri County FFA Chapter was recently awarded a $500.00 grant from the Nebraska Cattleman’s Ball Foundation. The funds are for safety and community service promotions.
Chapter Officer Alex Malchow accepted the check on behalf of the membership. Earlier this summer members volunteered their time at the Cattleman’s Ball held near Hebron. The annual event raises funds for cancer awareness and research. The Tri County FFA plans to use the money for an October 11th Rural Safety Day and community service projects during the year. The Chapter is planning a healthy lifestyles project. Presenting the check were Cattleman’s Ball Planning Committee members Mr. Gregg Weidel and Mrs. Janice Weidel.
FFA ALUMNI MEET
The Tri County FFA Alumni met on Tuesday, September 18th in the Ag Education classroom.
Action Items Included:
1.Moving to purchase four garment bags for the National Qualifying team to Indy
2.Moving to award a $25.00 stipend to each member of the National Qualifying team
3.Moving to pay the lodging for the National Qualifying team for the extra Tuesday night
4. Volunteers agreed to may contacts for donations to the Dec. 8th Pancake Feed Fundraiser

MALCHOW WINS AREA RANGE JUDGING CONTEST
Tri County junior Alexx Malchow bested 190 other range judging contestants to win the Area 6 Range Contest on Wednesday, September 18th. The competition was held southwest of Valparaiso, Nebraska and was hosted by the Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District.
Malchow teamed up with Jauques vanZyl, Evan Larson and Creighton Niemeyer to win the overall championship and senior division championship. Each ag education student earned a purple team ribbon and a purple rosette. There were 17 schools from southeast Nebraska competing. Individually Tri County swept the top four places. Alexx earned the purple rosette, Jauques came home with the second place blue ribbon, Evan earned the individual red ribbon and Creighton received the 4th place white ribbon. Chad Niemeier also ribboned for Tri County. Patty Monnin competed in the senior division. Diller-Odell claimed the second place team award. Tri County can now compete at the state range contest at Imperial, Nebraska.
In the Junior Division Lucas Weise’s fourth place finish and Cole Siems 6th place finish lead Tri County to the third place team red ribbons. Other’s on the team were Drew Garrison and Nicole Vodraska. Each member ribboned individually. Deshler won the Junior Division with Blue Hill claiming second. Mr. Dave Barnard is the Tri County Ag Education Instructor.
The students identified plants from a list of over 125, evaluated three sites for type, condition and degree of use and competed a range management quiz. The contestants also evaluated a grazing scenario and made recommendations. Other schools at the contest were Red Cloud, Auburn, Aurora, Norris, Nebraska City, Conestoga, Sandy Creek, Blue Hill, Tri County Ag Education students helped with the construction of the new playground equipment at the Plymouth east ballfield recently. The FFA members assisted with unwrapping & moving materials, assembling items, leveling dirt and erecting a temporary fence. Those helping were Savannah Gerlach, Taylor, Cammack Tiffany Pearson, Alexis Gerritse, Alexx Malchow, Drew Garrison, Cole Siems, Jacob Kapke, Patty Monnin, Evan Larson, Logan Larson, Creighton Niemeyer, Lucas Weise, Madison Freese and D.J. Whaley.Diller-Odell, Deshler, Osceola, Blair, St. Edward, Plattsmouth, Lewiston and Milford.
