  • Guest speakers in the Ag Education Dept. this month were Mr. Doug Straight of the Nebraska Beef Council and Mr. Colin Swedburg of UN-L.  Thanks for speaking!!

  • Thank you Rick & Amy Gerlach for providing the meat for the Member-Guest Banquet on May 2nd.

  • Mr. Barnard conducted a Youth Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training for 25 students on May 5th in Wilber.

  • Congratulations Taylor Cammack and Chad Niemeier for earning National FFA Organization national FFA Scholarships!!

  • Thank you Mr. Greg Schultis (Schultis Seed Service) and Mrs. Anna Pohlmann (Landscaping) for allowing Ag Education students to visit your facilities this month!



Retiring Tri County FFA President Savannah Gerlach presided over the 2019 Spring Banquet on May 2, 2019. The annual event was held in the High School Cafeteria beginning at 6:30pm 136 members and guests present. President Savannah Gerlach opened the evening by welcoming the group. Sophomore Kynlee Uher offered the invocation. A pot-luck and pork loin meal was then enjoyed.

The 2018-2019 Officer Team conducted opening ceremonies and 9th grade member Brevin Damrow presented the American Flag. Greenhand Gracin Hahn presented the FFA Creed and did an outstanding job.  President Gerlach awarded Gracin his State FFA Chorus pin. Secretary Tiffany Pearson introduced the invited guests. The officers then bestowed the Chapter Honorary Degree to Mr. Justin Sand and Mr. and Mrs. Rick and Amy Gerlach. They received a plaques for their efforts. The award is the highest an FFA Chapter can honor a business or individual with.

Senior members Evan Larson and Creighton Niemeyer awarded Appreciation Plaques to Mr. Kevin Weichel and the Farmers Cooperative for their contributions to the Tri County  FFA this year. Mr. Kyle Spilker presented the DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award to senior Chad Niemeier The award recognizes the outstanding senior member based on academic, leadership and FFA participation.  Chad was awarded a plaque and certificate. Mr. Spilker then presented the 2019 Tri County State Degree recipients with a plaque from the Tri County FFA Alumni.

Mr. Matt Raber, Vice President of First Tri County Bank, presented six seniors with a $200.00 scholarship.  The awards were the first ever First Tri County Bank Agriculture Accomplishment scholarships. Receiving recognition were Evan Larson, Tiffany Pearson, Creighton Niemeyer, Chad Niemeier, Taylor Cammack and Madison Freese.

Mr. Dennis Kenning of the Farmers Cooperative presented Chad Niemeier with a $500.00 scholarship.  Mrs. Jessica Larson awarded the Tri County FFA with a Farm Credit Service grant valued at $2,000.00 for county fair improvements.

Advisor Dave Barnard presented ag education students in each grade for outstanding scholarship. Receiving a pin were: Freshman Brevin Damrow, Sophomore Kynlee Uher, Junior Alexx Malchow, Seniors Taylor Cammack. Mr. Barnard awarded Chapter Leadership pins to Savannah Gerlach and Tiffany Pearson. Mr Barnard then highlighted the Chapter's 2018-2019 accomplishments and handed out ribbons and medals.

Mrs. Ann Freese awarded the Tri County FFA Alumni Scholarship of $500.00 to Savannah Gerlach. Historian Alexx Malchow awarded the FFA Chapter Scholarship of $250.00 to Alexis Gerritse. Mr. Barnard announced the Chapter Star Awards. Taylor Cammack received the Star Farmer Plaque and Alexis Gerritse received the Star Ag Placement Plaque. Freshman Gavin Weichel won the State Greenhand plaque. Chad Niemeier and Alexis Gerritse presented the 2019 Chapter Proficiency Awards. (Attached)

The 2019-2020 Tri County FFA Officers were installed. The are President: Alexx Malchow, Vice-President: Hannah Holtmeier, Secretary: Nicole Vodraska, Treasurer: Landen Chapman, Reporter: Cassidy Kowalski, Sentinel: Jacob Kapke, Parliamentarian: Cole Siems, and Historian: Lucas Weise. Mr. Barnard presented a Senior Salute slide show highlighting eight graduating members. They are Taylor Cammack, Alexis Gerritse, Madison Freese, Savannah Gerlach, Evan Larson, Chad Niemeyer, Creighton Niemeyer, and Tiffany Pearson. The New President Alexx Malchow presided over Closing Ceremonies.   



Proficiency Awards are based on an FFA member Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (S.A.E.), leadership skills/involvement and classroom contributions.

The Tri County FFA teamed up with the Student Council, National Honor Society and FBLA to make 20 tie quilts for Nebraska Flood victims.  The “We Care” gesture was an extension of the good efforts by Mrs. Joyce Shutts at the school. The quilt materials were funded by a grant Mr. Barnard wrote from Thrivent of Lutherans.  The students fitted, cut and tied the quilts on April 25th in the cafeteria. The quilts will be forwarded to families who experienced spring flooding.
