Thirty-four students enrolled in agriculture education classes at Tri County Schools competed in the District 5 Career Development Events (CDE) on March 3rd.  The contests were hosted by SCC-Beatrice for the 16 school district. Many of the events qualified teams for the State CDE’s to be held in Lincoln during the 92nd FFA State Convention April 1-3.  Tri County teams competed in 12 of the 17 contests.  


Logan Larson’s third place Agronomy finish led his team to second place.  Team members included Gavin Weichel, Brevin Damrow and Lucas Weise. Larson earned the bronze medal and the team earned a purple ribbon.  Weichel placed 4th. They are headed to state.


The Ag Mechanics team brought home the team championship and  qualified for state. Jacob Woosley was the individual gold medal winner and teammate Garrett Legg earned the bronze medal.  Brandon Seibolt and Jacob Kapke were also members of the team. The team earned a purple. 


The Nursery and Landscape team consisted of Emerson Scultis, Emily Thavenet, Gracin Hahn and Mya Maxwell.  The team placed 3rd and qualified for state. Emerson’s 6th place finish paced Tri County. The team received a purple.


The Poultry team of Lucas Weise, Jauques vanZyl, Kendra Caudill and Jacob Kapke finished in third place and missed State by one spot.  Weise earned 5th place and vanZyl finished 8th.  


 The Ag Science Contest is a 9th grade event.  The team was the 9th place school and earned a blue ribbon.  Kendra Caudill had the top placing for Tri County. Other Ag Science competitors were Breona Meyer, Carter Siems, Trevor Johnson, Carter Holtmeier, Karli Scherling, Taylor Koch and Jurgen Baker.


The Welding Team placed seventh. Emmett Franzen’s bronze medal in MIG Welding paced the team.  Brandon Seibolt competed in MIG Welding and finished 4th. Wesley Monnin and Caden Kapke competed in OxyAcetylene Welding.  Tri County also had Jacob Woosley and Zach Kuhn TIG Welding and Garrett Legg and Noah Leutzinger weld in Arc.


Eight individuals competed in the Vet Science Contest.  Caden Kapke placed 9th. Competing were Hannah Holtmeier, Cassidy Kowalski, Bonnie Jantzen, Drew Garrison, Carter Holtmeier, Lucas Weise and Hanna Taylor.  The team finished in 6th place.  


Tri County’s Natural Resources team finished in third place and earned a purple ribbon.  The team consisted of Nicole Vodraska, Brevin Damrow, Alexx Malchow, and Nick Loxterkamp.  The second team of Patty Monnin, Jurgen Baker, Kanin Baker and Gavin Weichel placed 6th.


The Livestock Management team finished in 3rd place at  Districts and earned a purple ribbon and spot at State. Students on this team were  Bonnie Jantzen, Hannah Holtmeier, Lucas Weise, Alexx Malchow and Caden Kapke. Tri County also had the 6th place team and earned a blue ribbon.  These team members were Cole Siems, Logan Larson, Cassidy Kowalski, Jacob Kapke and Carter Holtmeier.


The Envirothon team of Nick Loxterkamp, Gavin Weichel, Cole Siems, Logan Larson and Drew Garrison placed 7th.  The regional competition is hosted by the local NRD.  


In the Food Science competition Tri County earned third and will compete at state.  Gracin Hahn had the top score in the contest and won the gold medal. Other qualifying team members are Nicole Vodraska, Emily Thavanet, Ella Crawford and Kynlee Uher.   Other team members were Emerson Schultis, Mya Maxwell and Andie Koch.


Two individuals competed in the Meats Evaluation contest.  They were Drew Garrison and Hanna Taylor. In the Ag Biotechnology event, Tri County students Ella Crawford, Andie Koch, Hannah Holtmeier and Kynlee Uher competed.
