Mrs. Simpson’s and Mrs. Stutsman’s second graders at Tri County made their personalized pizzas on March 10th.  With the help of Mrs. Nicky Porter, TC Food Service Director, the students created their own lunch! Thirty-four students participated.

The project was an effort by the Tri County FFA through their Farm Bureau “Connecting Chapters” agriculture literacy program.  The FFA set up the event and as the elementary students made their “creations” told them how the food products were raised and processed.  The activity helped celebrate American Ag Week.

Nicole Vodraska explained how wheat grown and processed into flour and then into the dough the students received.  Mr. Barnard visited with the second graders how tomatoes were grown and the tomato sauce was made. The student then added sauce to their pizza.  Emerson Schultis manned the station featuring ground beef and pepperoni. She discussed raising meat animals. The 2nd graders could then put meat on their pizza.  Next was Gracin Hahn’s station on cheese. Gracin visited about dairy cattle, milk and cheese processing. The students then could add cheddar or mozzarella cheese.  Finally the second graders could add toppings and be really creative. Emily Thavenet spoke on peppers, mushrooms, olives and onions. The pizzas were baked on Wednesday and the personalized lunch was the envy of all elementary students!!
