TRI COUNTY FFA SELECTED AS A TOP TEN

The Nebraska FFA Association announced May 4th that the Tri County FFA Chapter is a 2020 National Gold Rated Chapter.  The local FFA received “Premier” status and will be recognized at the 93rd National FFA Convention on October 30th in Indianapolis, IN.  The designation means the Chapter ranks in the top ten % of Nebraska FFA Chapters.

The selection was based on three categories; Building Communities, Growing Leaders and Strengthening Agriculture.  Chapters across Nebraska submitted documentation of activities in 15 programs of activities areas.  Because of the cancellation of the Nebraska State FFA Convention, recognition will be made on May 22nd with a virtual program.  Officers of the past year were Alexx Malchow, Hannah Holtmeier, Cassidy Kowalski, Landen Chapman, Jacob Kapke, Cole Siems, Nicole Vodraska and Lucas Weise.

Advisor Dave Barnard and sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Ginger Pittman coordinated the event.  Students developed and presented 2 - 4 minute speeches on safety topics.  The presentations were given this year by videos submitted or one-on-one deliveries.  Awards were provided by the FFA Chapter through a collaboration with the Nebraska FFA Foundation, the Bergmeyer Leadership Development Account within the First State Bank Nebraska Donor-Advised Fund at Nebraska Community Foundation, and through the Youth Engagement Grant opportunity available exclusively to Nebraska Community Foundation affiliated funds.  All participants earned a medal for their efforts.

Sydney Brauer earned the first place trophy.  Her speech was on “Cattle Safety”.  Kennadee VanWinkle finished as runner-up through her “Horse Safety” presentation.  She also earned a trophy.  Other top five speeches were given by:
