Tri County has five candidates for the American FFA Degree in 2020. They are Chad Niemeier, Savannah Gerlach, Taylor Cammack, Alexis Gerritse and Evan Larson. Good Luck!!

Mr. Barnard is looking for Ag Education students wanting to compete in the State Dairy Evaluation CDE and the State Milk Quality & Dairy Products CDE teams. The contest is the weekend before Labor Day in Grand Island. Tri County has had a lot of success in these two contests so we have people to help you out!
FFA Chapter dues will be set at the first FFA meeting of the new year. This is a little bit of a change but 2020-21 dues will be paid to Mr. Barnard or the Chapter Treasurer and not to Jane or not on-line. We had major confusion last year!! Please note.

Celebrate Nebraska FFA Days
Join us on the Nebraska Facebook page on Thursday and Friday, May 21 and 22 for our virtual Celebrate Nebraska FFA Days. This is our effort to hold a virtual State Convention. All awards recognition from our convention will be announced, State Officers will deliver their Retiring Addresses, our sponsors will be recognized, as well as our State FFA Degree recipients and other student recognition. Be watching for specific links and times.

HOLTMEIER TO LEAD FFA CHAPTER
Tri County FFA members voted on-line in May for their new 2010-21 Chapter Officers. The candidates were interviewed by “Zooming” and then placed on a ballot. The students had to submit an application. The officers take their new positions immediately. Hannah Holtmeier was elected President of the Chapter. Joining Hannah on the Tri County Officer Team is:

TRI COUNTY FFA SELECTED AS A TOP TEN
The Nebraska FFA Association announced May 4th that the Tri County FFA Chapter is a 2020 National Gold Rated Chapter. The local FFA received “Premier” status and will be recognized at the 93rd National FFA Convention on October 30th in Indianapolis, IN. The designation means the Chapter ranks in the top ten % of Nebraska FFA Chapters.
The selection was based on three categories; Building Communities, Growing Leaders and Strengthening Agriculture. Chapters across Nebraska submitted documentation of activities in 15 programs of activities areas. Because of the cancellation of the Nebraska State FFA Convention, recognition will be made on May 22nd with a virtual program. Officers of the past year were Alexx Malchow, Hannah Holtmeier, Cassidy Kowalski, Landen Chapman, Jacob Kapke, Cole Siems, Nicole Vodraska and Lucas Weise.
SALINE COUNTY FAIR NEWS
Attached you will find the 2020 Saline County 4-H Handbook. If you would like a copy of the Handbook mailed to you, please let me know. This is just a guide for families. Keep in mind the fairbook is the OFFICIAL rulebook.
Also note that due to the COVID-19 situation deadlines and information may change.
We do need families to make sure you are still meeting deadlines for county fair and state fair participation.
June 1 – 4-H and FFA t-shirt orders due
June 15 – All horse, beef, sheep, goat, swine, and rabbit identification forms due at the Extension Office. LATE ID’S WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
You will need to call us to purchase ear tags for beef and swine. Ear tags WILL NOT be mailed. You will need to call our office to arrange a pick up time. We can mail ID forms to you if you let us know you need them

TRI COUNTY SIXTH GRADERS COMPETE IN SPEECH
The Tri County FFA Chapter conducted their first annual 6th Grade Rural Safety Public Speaking contest in May. The activity was to create a safety awareness in the student’s home and community and develop oral communication skills.
Advisor Dave Barnard and sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Ginger Pittman coordinated the event. Students developed and presented 2 - 4 minute speeches on safety topics. The presentations were given this year by videos submitted or one-on-one deliveries. Awards were provided by the FFA Chapter through a collaboration with the Nebraska FFA Foundation, the Bergmeyer Leadership Development Account within the First State Bank Nebraska Donor-Advised Fund at Nebraska Community Foundation, and through the Youth Engagement Grant opportunity available exclusively to Nebraska Community Foundation affiliated funds. All participants earned a medal for their efforts.
Sydney Brauer earned the first place trophy. Her speech was on “Cattle Safety”. Kennadee VanWinkle finished as runner-up through her “Horse Safety” presentation. She also earned a trophy. Other top five speeches were given by:
Meila Gronemeyer, 3rd - “Handling Dogs Safely” - Trophy
Lucy Morrisey, 4th - “Child Care on the Farm” - Trophy
Kenzi Scherling, 5th - “Home Child Care” - Trophy
JEFFERSON CO. FAIR - JULY 15-19 UPDATE
Pre-fair entries for foods, clothing, fashion shows and livestock are due on Monday, June 15th. All entries will be done on paper this year, no on-line entries.
