THE ADVISOR - JULY 2020

THE ADVISOR

JULY  2020

  • The Advisor appreciates the opportunity of visiting the following students at their homes and/or SAE’s this month: Kaden Koch, Trevor Johnson

  • Hannah Holtmeier and Ella Crawford were on the front page of the Beatrice Daily Sun with their Homestead National Monument S.A.E. !!

  • The Tri County FFA extends their sincere thoughts to the Galen Plihal family.  Mr. Plihal was definitely a friend of agriculture in our community.

  • Due to continuing health concerns and to safeguard presenters and students, the October 8th Gage Co. Rural Safety Day hosted by the Tri County FFA is cancelled.  A 2021 October Safety Day will be planned.

  • Two Chapter Officers stepped up and competed in the State Agronomy CDE on-line July 22nd.  Logan Larson and Gavin Weichel both earned white ribbons.  Tri County did not have a team.  To earn an individual ribbon a contestant must be in the top 50%.  Good Job!

TRI COUNTY WINS STATE FFA CONTEST

Led by August’s first place individual finish Tri County won the team championship plaque.  August earned the gold medal and purple ribbon.  Lucas placed 8th and received a purple.  Evan won tenth place and was top blue.  Kaden placed with a blue.  John and Avery received red ribbons and Ellie earned a white.  Students had to be in the top half of the competitors to get a ribbon.  Team finishes after Tri County were Eustis Farnam, St. Paul and Chase County.

EARN A FREE JACKET!!

Blue Jackets. Bright Futures.

School will be here soon and so we have sent out your jacket promotional poster and letter to your schools to start promoting the program. The Blue Jackets. Bright Futures. Program is a great way for FFA members to earn an FFA jacket from a Nebraska FFA Foundation donor. The program is open to all agricultural education students who are active members of an FFA chapter. The number of recipients is based on the number of jackets sponsored. The deadline to apply is September 15.

To apply for a jacket:

  1. Students can apply at www.neffafoundation.org/jacket_application.html

  2. You and the student will receive an email to the email addresses entered alerting that the application was submitted.

**Advisor Note:  There are four questions members need to answer on the application.  I suggest four sentences per question.  I suggest having the Advisor read your questions before you submit the application.  The questions are 1.  What does FFA mean to you?  2. How will the FFA jacket help you make an impact?  3. What have you done or experienced in FFA since becoming a member?   (SAE, CDE’s, classes, LDE)  4. What does your FFA future look like?

July 23, 2020

Dear FFA/ Ag Education Students:

I hope your extended summer was productive and you had the opportunity to experience some of the things you enjoy.  Continue being safe and remind those around you to do so also.

A couple of school kick-off events hosted by the Tri County FFA Officers and FFA Alumni are coming up.  Freshmen are invited and encouraged to be a part of all events.  Eighth grade students are also invited.  Ninth graders have been paired with an FFA Officer so reach you to them with your questions.  Mr. Barnard’s cell is 402-879-5584.

On Thursday, August 6th the officers are hosting a chapter picnic at Pohlmann’s Pond north of DeWitt.  You can  fish (Catch and Release), swim, hike, canoe or play games starting at 5:00 am.  Roast your own hotdogs with chips, cookies and smoories starting at 6:00 pm.  We need to be gone at 9:00 pm.  I suggest you carpool.  Directions are: take the blacktop east from DeWitt that goes to Clatonia.  Three miles east and three miles north to the “Soap Creek Lutheran Church sign” and turn west.  Travel ¼ mile and turn into a farmstead on the north side of the road.  The service road winds back to the pond for ¼ mile.  What to bring…. Swim attire, lawn chair, water gear, yard games, towel, bug spray, pole if you want to fish, drinks if you want something besides lemonade.
