Tri County Career Technology Education Students Compete

Fourteen Tri County students enrolled in Career Technology Education classes competed in two District 5 competitions in Lincoln on Feb. 23rd.  The Career Development Events (CDE’s) were hosted by Southeast Community College.  The competitions were state qualifying events for the Apri contests.  There are 16 schools in the District 5 area.

The Poultry Evaluation Team was led by Kaden VanWinkle’s first place finish and gold medal.  The Tri County team placed third and earned bronze medals.  Joining VanWinkle was John Wehrman, Garrett Smidt and Lucas Lewandowski.  John and Garrett received blue ribbons and Lucas earned a red ribbon.  Ellie Peters and Talon Caudill also judged for Tri County.  The team finished as State Alternates.

Students evaluated production hens, carcass cuts, broke-out eggs, interior and exterior eggs, poultry carcasses and gave oral reasons.

The Tri County Welding team had eight students compete.  The team of Gracin Hahn, Grant Lewandowski, Kanin Baker and Chris Janssen placed second as district runner-ups and will represent Tri County at State!  Students competed in four welding areas with scores counting for the team totals.  They earned team silver medals.  Students welded in the flat and vertical positions.

Gracin Hahn won the GMAW (MIG) division and brought home the gold medal.  Nick Loxterkamp placed 7th in this division.  Chris Janssen finished with the silver medal in Arc Welding.  Kaden Koch also represented Tri County in this area.  In Oxy/Acetylene Welding Grant Lewandowski placed 7th.  Zaid Martinez welded O/A also.  Kanin Baker had a solid 5th place finish in TIG Welding and Caden Reedy competed in TIG.
