TRI COUNTY FFA CONDUCTS SPRING AWARDS NIGHT

Retiring Tri County FFA President Brevin Damrow presided over the 2022 FFA Spring Awards Night on April 28th.  The annual event was held at the High School Auditorium beginning at 6:30 pm with 56 members present.  President Damrow opened the evening by welcoming the group. A year ending slide show was presented by seniors Emily Thavenet and Emerson Schultis.

 

The 2021-2022 Officer Team conducted opening ceremonies and 9th grade member Pierce Damrow presented the American Flag.  Secretary Emerson Schultis introduced the invited guests.  

The Officers conducted Honorary Chapter Degree Ceremonies and bestowed the honor on Mr. Randy Schlueter, Supt. of Tri County Schools and Mrs. Bev Plihal and the late Mr. Galen Plihal, strong FFA supporters.  The recipients were given plaques.  Mr. Jerry Lentfer, Nebraska FFA Foundation Board Member, addressed the group.  He highlighted the Nebraska FFA “I Believe” Program.

August Gerlach and Colton Bales awarded Appreciation Plaques to Mrs. Nicky Porter and Farm Credit Services of America- Beatrice Office for their contributions to the TC FFA this year.  The recipients were given plaques.  Mr. Kyle Spilker presented the DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award to senior Carter Holtmeier.  The award recognizes the outstanding senior member based on academic, leadership and FFA participation.  Carter was awarded a plaque and certificate.  Mr. Spilker and Mr. Chris Petersthen presented the 2022 Tri County State Degree recipients with a plaque from the Tri County FFA Alumni. These recipients were Nick Loxterkamp, Brevin Damrow, Gracin Hahn, Emily Thavenet, Emerson Schultis and Gavin Weichel.

Farmers Cooperative representative Brian Scherling awarded a $1000.00 Farmers Cooperative Scholarship to Kanin Baker, Gracin Hahn and Gavin Weichel.  Mr. Scherling highlighted the Tri County FFA’s involvement in the Brevent Seed education program in 2021.  The FFA was awarded a check for their seed sales.  Mr. Matt Raber, First Tri County State Bank Officer awarded $200.00 Ag Accomplishment Scholarships to seniors Gracin Hahn, Brevin Damrow, Emerson Schultis, Emily Thavenet and Lucas Weise.

Advisor Dave Barnard presented ag education students in each grade outstanding scholarship pins.  Receiving a pin were: Freshman Rylee McCune, Sophomore Dusty Kapke, Junior Carter Holtmeier and Senior Gracin Hahn. Mr.Barnard handed out Leadership Pins to Senior Brevin Damrow, Junior Taylor Koch, Sophomore Kaden VanWinkle and Freshman Alex Paxton.   Mr. Barnard then highlighted the Chapter’s 2021-2022 accomplishments and Karli Scherling and Taylor Koch handed out ribbons and medals.

For the second year an award was presented to four freshman members.  The Tri County FFA First Year Ag Accomplishment Awards were given to Avery Schultis, Talon Caudill, Ethan Jobman and Jordyn Zulauf.  The funds for the grants were from memorial monies given by the Rodney Wiese, Eugene Panietz and Galen Plihal families.  Mrs. Bev Plihal awarded each 9th grader a check for $200.00 to enhance their SAE’s.

Mr. Kyle Spilker awarded the Tri County FFA Alumni Scholarship of $500.00 to Gavin Weichel.  Sentinel Carter Holtmeier awarded the FFA Chapter Scholarship of $250.00 to Nick Loxterkamp.  Mr. Barnard announced the Chapter Star Awards.  Gavin Weichel received the Star Farmer Plaque and  Freshman Avery Schultis won the Star Greenhand Plaque.  Advisor Dave Barnard presented the 2022 Chapter Proficiency Awards.

The 2022-23 Tri County FFA Officers were installed. They are President: Carter Holtmeier;  Vice-President: Dusty Kapke; Secretary: Kaden VanWinkle;   Treasurer:Cassidy Thavenet;  Reporter: Ellie Peters; Sentinel: Evan Quackenbush;  Parliamentarian: Lucas Lewandowski and Historian: August Gerlach..  Mr. Barnard presented a Senior Salute slide show highlighting nine graduating members.  New President Carter Holtmeier presided over Closing Ceremonies.
