Everyday Essentials

This year Tri County Public Schools is offering a new trimester elective for 7th and 8th graders who are not in both Band and Chorus. This class is called Everyday Essentials. In this class students will be learning a variety of life skills (see list below) as well as learning about the importance of forming healthy relationships, setting goals, and other physical and mental wellness topics.  Our goal of this class is to help students make smart life choices and help teach them skills that will help them navigate the rest of their lives. So far we have had a blast learning about food and meal planning and just finished up our unit with a Food Truck Face Off where students designed and planned a food truck business. They then had to cook one of their menu items and it was judged by a panel of teachers. They did awesome! Our next big unit we are looking forward to is life planning. We will be looking at how much it costs to live in the world that we live in. We will also be using this information to help us answer questions about our futures. Some of the questions we hope to answer are: What do I want to do after high school? What do I want to do for a job? Does that job give me the opportunities and finances to live the life I want to live?

Other things we still hope to cover this trimester:

Good Hygiene and Sleeping Habits

Real Life Costs- cost of food, rent, streaming services, etc.

Life Planning- Importance of having a job, job interests, college planning

Setting Life Goals

How to deal with emotions

Building Healthy Relationships

Time Management and Planning

Being Leaders and Impacting Your Community

Skills to Deal with Emergency Situations

Basic Sewing Skills

Basic Vehicle Knowledge and Maintenance
