Our first graders have been busy learning all about pumpkins in science class! Over the past few weeks, students have explored the life cycle of a pumpkin — from tiny seed to sprout, vine, flower, and finally, a big orange pumpkin. They’ve also learned to identify the different parts of a pumpkin, both inside and out, through hands-on classroom activities and discussions.
To bring their learning to life, the first graders took an exciting field trip to Roca Berry Farms Pumpkin Patch! There, they were able to see real pumpkin plants growing, experience the sights and smells of the farm, and make connections to what they’ve been studying. Each student even got to pick their very own pumpkin to take home — a perfect way to remember their lesson in plant life cycles.
Of course, the trip wasn’t all work — students also had plenty of time to explore and play at the pumpkin patch, enjoying all the fun activities Roca Berry Farms has to offer. It was a wonderful day of learning, laughter and fall fun for everyone!
What a great way to celebrate autumn and science learning at the same time
