It has been an amazing first quarter! We have had fun competing, learning new skills, and discovering what bothers the people around us.

The 5th-grade students are currently working through a health unit titled “Getting Along with Others.” One lesson in this unit focuses on pet peeves. During this discussion, students shared things that bother them while their classmates listened and discussed ways they could help if they noticed someone doing something that was another student’s pet peeve. As a creative way to reinforce the lesson, students created mobile hangers featuring four of their biggest pet peeves. These will be displayed in the hallway above their classroom lockers. This serves as a great reminder that what may not bother one person could drive someone else crazy!

In physical education, we have also been working on our football and volleyball skills, two sports that are relevant to the season. Each student has learned how to throw a football and has developed a better understanding of how the game works. In volleyball, we have focused on our passing, setting, and serving skills. One of the best parts has been seeing students help one another. Many of the girls have been supportive of the boys, and the boys have reciprocated by helping the girls. Through these activities, students have strengthened their teamwork skills while encouraging and supporting their classmates. It has been a great first quarter, and I am excited to see what the rest of the year brings! I will miss all of you, and I am so thankful for my time here at Tri County Elementary. --Kalli Sutton
