The 6th Grade Science Classes have been exploring science content with hands-on learning experiences. We have partnered with the ESU 5 science teachers to bring learning about parts of the eye with a sheep’s eyeball dissection. They learned about different parts of the eye and their function. This lab helped our students make connections with the parts of the eye and how the brain processes what we see in our Light and Energy unit.

Why learn science content in a hands-on way?

*Students benefit from learning science with hands-on labs. It helps them to see models or representations of different concepts and interact with them.

*Hands-on learning helps students to build a deeper understanding of connecting concepts together in a meaningful and engaging way.

*Hands-on labs are a great way to see students get excited about science and grow in their understanding of different science concepts.

I’m excited for more opportunities for the 6th grade science classes to learn and grow in the scientific process and labs.
