SURPRISE! What an afternoon for our Tri County readers!

This afternoon, 25 students in grades 3–7 traveled to Freeman for a special field trip! Students were selected based on their Reading Rally participation, reading milestones, and years of dedication to the program.

Thanks to an invitation from Freeman librarian Becky Weyer, we joined several area schools for what we thought was a presentation about book care. Imagine our surprise when we discovered our guest speaker was Jeff Kinney, author of the wildly popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series!

Students heard how Jeff created Greg Heffley, how his books have taken him around the world, watched him draw, and enjoyed a fun trivia competition!

What an unforgettable experience for our young readers! A HUGE thank-you to Becky Weyer and Freeman Public Schools for including Tri County in this incredible opportunity!

The 2026 season came to an end Friday night after a hard-fought battle with Thayer Central. While it’s never easy to see a season come to a close, there is a lot to be proud of with this group.

The Trojans finished the season 6-3, earning the most wins in a season since 2020. After finishing with just two wins a year ago, this group showed tremendous growth, toughness, and determination throughout the season. The improvement these players made, the way they competed, and the memories they created together made this a special season for Trojan football.

A special thank you to our senior class for the time, effort, and commitment they have given to this program. We appreciate everything you have done for Trojan football!

We are proud of the progress this team made and excited about the future of Trojan football. Thank you to everyone who was part of the 2026 season!

Once a Trojan, always a Trojan!

The Tri County boys gave it absolutely everything they had at the Class D State Championship, capturing the State Runner-Up Title for the second consecutive year in an incredibly dramatic, razor thin battle. In a field of the absolute best runners in Nebraska, our boys finished just a mere two points behind the state champions, Doniphan Trumbull. Sammy Holsing led the charge with an incredible third place overall finish, becoming a rare and elite three year state medalist while breaking his own school record for the third consecutive year. Dawson Siems ran an amazing race to capture seventeenth place in the state, with Devon Rasmussen right on his heels pushing the pace to take twentieth. Zane Brandt placed thirty-eighth, and Riley Schardt anchored the team by placing sixty-ninth. While they did not have a full team score, Stella Morrissey and Emma Loxterkamp represented Tri County with immense pride, grace, and determination on the girls' side. Stella Morrissey claimed a forty third place finish in Nebraska, and Emma Loxterkamp crossed the finish line at fifty ninth . Qualifying for the state meet is a massive accomplishment on its own, but going toe-to-toe with the fastest runners in the state and finishing in the top tier is truly special. Both Stella and Emma showed incredible individual heart, dedication, and toughness all season long, proving they belong among Nebraska's elite. As your coach, I am so incredibly proud of every single one of our runners and the endless hours of hard work they put in to make this season unforgettable. To return to the state podium two years in a row proves the incredible standard of excellence you have built. You have represented Tri County with class and excellence. Go Trojans.

📘 The Power of Reading Aloud

When children learn to read independently, we often celebrate by retiring the bedtime story routine. However, literacy experts note that around 5th grade is exactly when reading for pleasure starts to decline. Keeping the read-aloud tradition alive with our older students is one of the most powerful tools we have to keep them engaged, curious, and growing. To read more about how we are doing just that with our 5th and 6th graders at Tri County click the link to read more.
