🎈🎉 Fifth Graders Take Over the Parade Route! 🎉🎈
This November, our 5th-grade students dove into the magic of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with an incredible month-long project that combined literacy, STEM, and creativity during their library classes!
We kicked off the journey by reading Balloons Over Broadway, which tells the story of Tony Sarg, the puppeteer behind the iconic parade balloons. From there, we explored behind-the-scenes videos to uncover the immense planning, design, and logistics that go into making the parade a reality each year.
Next, we got hands-on with technology, learning to code using Sphero Bolts. Our young engineers worked in pairs to design their very own parade floats, considering important concepts like speed, drag, and balance—critical for coding successful routes for their robot-powered floats! Using degrees, they coded precise turns and mapped out their parade routes, bringing their floats to life.
The combination of creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork made this project a huge hit! The kids were so proud of their floats and excited to see their hard work come together during our parade.

We are so proud of Henry Holtmeier and Ethan Rosenthal who represented Tri County at the 2024 NMEA All State Choir held in Lincoln from November 20-22. Over 400 singers from around Nebraska were selected via audition to participate in this event which culminated with a concert at the Lied Center.
